Overhead plant storage

Overhead plant storage

Fall is coming and soon leaves will be falling and bulbs will be dormant. If you are like me you have these great plants each spring but nowhere to put them to keep them from freezing in the winter. No one wants to take up valuable floor space in the garage or shed with dormant plants if there is a better way but we all do. Instead of loosing this valuable space, store them over head. You can put the plants up in the winter with a simple overhead plant storage shelf. For a relatively small amount (less than replacing even 2-3 plants each year) you can install a overhead loft in either a garage or taller shed to hold your plants and keep your walkways. An adjustable storage rack made for a ladder for example with a 1/4 sheet of plywood or a few 2 x 4s makes a great plant shelf and can be used to store snow shovels, sleds or other out of season items in the warmer months. Since most of these overhead storage racks are made to hold 200- 300 lbs you can put the entire pot on your overhead plant storage shelf without having to dig them up which also means you don’t have to replant each year either! False spring… no worries in a few minutes your plants can be snug as a bug again in just a few minutes!  I know my bulbs will be enjoying their warm dry winter “vacation” in overhead plant storage. Will yours?
