Why Our Add To Cart Button is Not Always at The Top of The Page
We get a lot of phone calls and emails from people, sometimes, people we trust and do business with, and they insist we have it all wrong. “The purpose of your site is to sell. Save education for your blog and move all your add to cart buttons to the top of the page!” When you look at some of our pages, such as /g-floor-small-coin-garage-mats/, they state we have done a ‘poor job’ optimizing our site for conversions….. Yes, believe it or not, there is an entire industry that has developed and its primary goal is to influence you to make a decision and buy the product quicker.
If I walked into a car dealership and the first thing they did was hand me a credit application, I would turn around and leave. I want to learn about the product before I am presented with an opportunity to buy it! We are not selling instant gratification items. We are selling an investment in your home and we simply believe that you should be educated about the product before you are ‘sold’ the product.
Now, that said, part of learning about a product is understanding how much it costs. We are working on new layouts, and in many cases we have implemented them, that allow you to see the price faster, while still gathering all the information you need to make an educated decision.
The bottom line for us is we want our customers to buy the product that is best for them in the long run. Pushing people to make a quick decision does not accomplish that. We want people to make educated decisions, so we prioritize our content over our add to cart buttons.
