Basement Floor Dust — The Cure for Concrete Dusting in Basement

Perhaps you just built a new home, or you have lived in a house for a while and never addressed the issue. The dust from the concrete in your basement is a major frustration. There is a well known, affordable and easy to apply solution for basement concrete dust.

According to NRMCA.com concrete dusting is

Formation of loose powder resulting from disintegration of surface of hardened concrete is called dusting or chalking. The characteristics of such surfaces are:
  • They powder under any kind of traffic
  • They can be easily scratched with a nail or even by sweeping.

The same article calls for the application of a liquid hardner or densifier to repair the concrete and keep it from dusting. We cite this article so you understand that we are not proposing a new solution. We are simply offering products that the professionals use. We are offering them to the DIY consumer at affordable prices so they can tackle their issues.

One of these issues is concrete dust in the basement. It drives people nuts. Many times the floor will eventually be covered in carpet or other flooring products, but the dusting issue has to be taken care of first. The solution is simple. a concrete densifier.

A densifier is a permanent solution to the concrete dusting issue and not a temporary fix or a coating that can fail or become damaged. The densifier reacts with the concrete, making it harder and filling in the voids. A basic desnifier line TL37 is ideal in many cases. If you have moisture entering the basement from above, TL39 is a better option. If you would like to avoid stains we would suggest a combination of TL37 and TL40.

Application is simple. Just mop it on or apply with a garden sprayer. That is it!
